The Application Process
There is an annual information evening for medical students applying to Northern Ireland Foundation School, held in September/October. Non-Queen's University students are welcome to attend these evenings, which are advertised on the Northern Ireland Foundation School website.

Appointment to F2 Programmes
Successful applicants are appointed to a two year linked programme; there is no need for a second allocation process during F1. In most cases trainees are required to move between F1 and F2.

Study Leave
Study leave may be used during F2 for tasters; there is no study leave during F1 in line with national guidelines. Using study leave for Tasters is encouraged.

Providing eligibility criteria are met, Less Than Full Time (LTFT) Training may be undertaken. The most preferable format is slot-share with 50-60% of normal working hours; less preferable is reduced sessions in a full-time post (can work up to 80-90% of full-time hours). Least preferable are supernumerary posts.
Overseas training is not possible in the Northern Ireland Foundation School.
